TunesTEXT: The Free and Smart Lyric Tool for iTunes
I was surprised how hard it is to find a free lyrics tool with lyric searching ability. Most freeware fail to offer this useful searching function. Lucky for me, I found one that not only has the ability to search, but also has some other features to offer: TunesTEXT.
TunesTEXT is a free dashboard widget that displays lyric of the song currently playing in iTunes in your dashboard. As your iTunes starts playing, TunesTEXT begins to search the lyric of the song playing automatically. When the lyric is found, TunesTEXT will download it for you and embed the lyric in iTunes. Let’s have a close look at how it works.
This is the window of TunesTEXT in your dashboard. The three buttons on the left top controls your iTunes, and the button on the right controls the artwork. A click on it will show or hide the artwork. The flaw here is that the lyric doesn’t go as the song plays. So you have to roll down yourself to see the rest part of the lyric. Click on the “i” button on the left bottom, the widow will flip to Preferences and Editor.
In Preferences you can choose to embed the lyric to iTunes or not, change window style and font and select data base of lyrics. The developers of TunesTEXT are Japanese, so the default lyric websites here are all Japanese sites. This is very convenient for J-Pop fans like me. And there is no problem finding lyrics of most English songs as well. Maybe that’s why you can’t change the database sites here, because you don’t need to. If you do have problem finding a lyric, turn to the Editor tab.
The Editor tab allows you to search and edit lyrics. Enter the artist name or song title, and select the right lyric from the results above. When this doesn’t work either, you can always copy the text lyrics into the editor box.
TunesTEXT is really the best free lyric tool I can find, though you need to reach the dashboard to see the lyric. This smart widget does a pretty good job at searching and displaying lyrics. That’s enough for me. What else do you ask for?

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
